The Design of this ceramic handcrafted swallow is inspired by the typical crafts of the ’50s in Spain and Portugal.
Ceramic has reemerged with a new and important role to play in our society. It enriches everyday objects with purpose and beauty; it gives them a soul. When an object is made by hand by a craftsman—you won’t want to throw it away so easily. You will care for it and cherish it. These beautiful ceramic handcrafted swallows have decorated for decades the facades and interiors of the houses. This beautiful story inspired us in our search for traditional pottery, which we found in the south of Spain. We adapted some aspects and created a symbiosis between traditional and contemporary design. With a great symbolism of protection and good luck at home, since they return every spring to their place of birth.

Just some background to the symbolic of swallows:
For ancient Greeks, the swallows birds represented their goddess of love, namely, Aphrodite. The Greeks believed that swallows have the ability to bring love and happiness to a person. Lastly, for modern Christians, these birds mean rebirth or new beginnings. No matter the cultural meaning of these birds is, one can conclude that they symbolize a form of hope. This may be the reason why these birds are usually protected and sympathized in the vast majority of cultures.
